THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM APPROACH In both Lee and Macon Counties, every case of serious physical abuse and sexual abuse committed against a child is presented to a multidisciplinary team. The team consists of members of local law enforcement, the Department of Human Resources, the District Attorney's Office, the Child Advocacy Center of East Alabama, a medical professional, and a mental health practitioner. Once a month, a Multidisciplinary Team meeting is held in each county to discuss cases individually. Each case is presented by the law enforcement officer who investigated the report, the Child Abuse and Neglect social worker from DHR, and the Interviewer who conducted the forensic interview. Each case receives input from all the members of the team, while the District Attorneys Office discusses the laws that pertain to the case. The case is then presented to the county's District Attorney for prosecution, if possible.
